Vantage Media introduces the new issue of Tempus, starring Breitling ambassador Austin Butler

Oscar-nominated actor Austin Butler shares how he channelled Old Hollywood for his new watch campaign with Breitling in the latest issue of Tempus Magazine, Vantage Media’s flagship publication.

Austin, who started his career as a Nickelodeon child star before his breakout role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), recently became brand ambassador for the Swiss watchmaking brand, and revealed how his on-screen range and versatility is thanks, in part, to his childhood heroes, particularly James Dean.

“Watching James Dean growing up – he just had this animalistic energy,” Austin says. “It drove me to want to act. There were years where I was just trying to make it work.”

The Rebel Without a Cause star’s style was influential on Austin’s own style, and he told Tempus how he credits films – and actors – from the ’50s and ’60s for his own love of horology.

“Growing up, I always liked watches because of the images that I saw of Paul Newman, Steve McQueen and James Dean, but it wasn’t until the last few years that I started having conversations with people that were actual watchmaking experts,” he said.
